Recruitment of Project Director for National Translation Mission

National Translation Mission (NTM) Scheme now under the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore requires a Project Director to lead the Mission in achieving its aims and objectives.

NTM, a Government of India initiative, is to translate knowledge-texts into 22 languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India. It is therefore an attempt to democratize knowledge by making it accessible to those who may have difficulty with English and to simultaneously create opportunities to modernize Indian languages and guarantee their growth in higher education, NTM also seeks to create translation tools in print and web as well as identify and engage capable individuals in each translation related activity.

The Project Director will be based at NTM headquarters, Mysore and will report to the Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, the Nodal Officer of the Mission. He/she will also help in planning the targets and delivering the products of translation and ensuring that the people involved in the process do so effectively with high order of quality. The financial responsibilities attached to the position will be limited to drawing up the plan and the budget for different activities. He/she has to interact with other governmental and private organizations, educational institutions, publishing houses etc., to further the cause of the NTM.

The appointment of Project Director is on contractual basis for a period 3 years subjected to annual review. The position carries a consolidated pay of Rs.75,000/- per month (fixed). The relevant Government of India rules on reengagement will be applicable. Candidates seeking to apply for this position should be less than 62 years of age on the last date of receipt of application, i.e., 21st February 2013.

Educational qualifications: Doctoral Degree in Linguistics with specialization in Translation and with at least 15 years of research/teaching experience and at least 5 years of administrative experience in a reputed organization or an educational institution. Knowledge of IPR and copyright issues and publishing activities is required.

Interested candidates may send the signed application form along with their detailed CV, list of publications, and samples of published works addressed to The Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Manasagangotri, Hunsur Road, Mysore 570 006 on or before 21st February 2013 (or the postal/courier mark/date should be 21-02-2013). The application form may be down loaded to the computer and filled in the word format. Take a print out on a good paper, preferably on A4 size executive bond paper. The cover should be super-scribed “Application for the post of Project Director, NTM.” Those who are in service must forward their applications through their employer and may send an advance copy so as to reach within the due date.

OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS::

  1. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
  2. The recruitment of the Project Director, NTM will be done by a Selection Committee constituted by the MHRD.
  3. The appointing authority of the Project Director is the Director, CIIL, who will also have the power of removal, if the incumbent’s service is found unsatisfactory, or misconduct or misappropriation of funds.
  4. The decision of the Competent Authority will be final in the matter of alteration of any criteria in case of any deserving candidate and is the final decision.

Responsibilities and duties of the Project Director::

  1. Though the Project Director for NTM would be the Head of the NTM, (s)he has to report to the Director, CIIL for implementation of the Mission as the Director, CIIL being the Nodal Officer of the Mission and thus the Sanctioning Authority as for as financial and administrative matters are concerned to NTM as per the Government of India rules.
  2. On behalf-of the Nodal Officer, the Project Director, NTM will supervise, monitor and implement the decisions of the NTM-PAC. (S)he also expected to give a monthly report on the progress made in the Scheme to him by the 3rd or next working day of the following month.
  3. The Project Director, NTM is also required to convene meetings of the four Sub-Committees and the NTM-PAC with approval of the Nodal Officer.
  4. The Project Director, NTM will be required to frame the budget for NTM.
  5. The Project Director, NTM shall be the custodian of the records and publications/e- publications and such other properties of the Mission/CIIL as the CIIL may commit to his/her charge.
  6. The Project Director, NTM will do the ground-work and correspondence for entering into contracts, Intents of Collaboration, MoUs and assignments.
  7. vii. The Project Director, NTM will also be required to undertake any responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the Nodal Officer.
