A brief account of what CIIL and FEL will offer to the participants of FEL X

Dear FEL Speakers, (including our keynote presenters)

We are all going to meet soon in October 2006 for FEL X at Mysore, India. In this context, it is our earnest duty to let you know what we shall offer to you to make your participation in the conference meaningful and make your visit to CIIL, Mysore comfortable

Surface Transport and Domestic flights:

  1. All paper readers from countries other than India will be picked up from Bangalore and they will be taken to the place of stay at Mysore by CIIL.  The same way, they will be helped to reach Bangalore to catch their flights after the conference will be over.  The cost for this operation will be met by CIIL.
  2. CIIL has some limited funds to pay for the domestic flight charges of a small number of participants from countries other than India for their journey from the point of entry in India to Bangalore and back from Bangalore to the same point in India.  This may be considered on specific request.
  3. CIIL will meet the travel cost (by shortest route by train) of those Indian participants who do not get any financial assistance from their institutions for travel to Mysore to attend FEL X.  Again, this will be considered on specific request and the class by which they can travel by train will be communicated to them by CIIL once it is decided that CIIL will pay their travel cost.
  4. All the participants will be ferried from their place of stay to the venue of the conference and back by CIIL (in case the place of stay is outside the CIIL campus).

Accommodation in Mysore:

All the conference participants will be provided accommodation from 25th October to 28th October 2006. This is for covering the three conference days and the fourth day, that is, 28th October is meant for local excursion. Those of you reaching Mysore in the evening of 24th October will be taken care of. The entire accommodation will be arranged and paid by CIIL. All the rooms to be provided will be double bedded and hence two participants will have to share one room. The climate in October will not require any air conditioning though a few AC rooms may be available. If someone wants to avail ones own accommodation, he/she will be free to do that but at ones own cost. If there are queries in this regard we shall send necessary details (of Hotels, Tariff etc.).

Food:

Lunch will be hosted by CIIL and FEL jointly for all the three days of the conference and one conference dinner will be hosted exclusively by FEL. Breakfast for all the four days of the stay will be served wherever the participants stay. Lunch and dinner will be of South Indian and North Indian cuisine with some meat/fish.

Conference Kit:

CIIL will be gifting every participant a conference kit (consisting of a file folder, pen and some writing pad) and a copy of the proceedings of the conference.  Any additional copy of the proceedings will have to be purchased by the participants.

Excursion in and around Mysore:

CIIL will take all the participants of the conference on an excursion on 28th October 2006 to the following places: 1) Mysore Palace and Residential Museum; 2) Art Gallery housed in the Jaganmohan Palace; 3) Mysore Zoological Gardens; 4) Chamundi Temple at the top of the Chamundi Hill; 5) St. Philomena’s Church; 6) Tippu Sultan’s Palace at Srirangapatna; 7) Tippu Sultan’s Fort at Srirangapatna; 8) Rangnathittu Bird Sanctuary and 9) Krishnaraj Sagar Dam & Brindavan Gardens.

Other places of interest in and around Mysore will be soon listed in the conference website so that the interested participants may make their own arrangement to visit such places before 25th October or after 28th October.

Attractions in CIIL:

The major attractions in CIIL will be its library, language laboratory, phonetics laboratory and language archives. An exhibition will be organized during the conference in the CIIL campus focusing on various ethnic groups of interest in India. CIIL has produced many documentaries on several such ethnic groups. These documentaries (at least the very significant portions of them) will be screened for the benefit of the participants in the evenings of 25th and 26th October for an hour each after the conference sessions will be over.
