Award of Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowships

Call for Applications

In order to promote scholarship in Classical Tamil, the Central Institute of Indian Languagesunder its Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Languages – Scheme for Classical Tamil proposes to award Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowships to eligible candidates.  The details are as follows:

Doctoral Fellowships (10) :

  • The Doctoral Fellowship includes Rs. 10,000/-  per month for 2 years with a contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/- per annum. It is extendable by another 3 years in case of actual need after proper assessment of the progress made.The maximum period of fellowship will not exceed 5 years.  To begin with it is upto March 31, 2007 only
  • Post Graduate Degree holders with first or high second class in Language, Linguistics, or allied disciplines such as Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Archeology, Epigraphy, Philosophy, etc., are eligible to apply. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category will be given relaxation of 5% marks as per UGC norms.
  • The candidate should have registered for Ph.D. in any recognised University or Institute. Those who are about to register for Ph.D. can also apply, but they have to get registered before commencement of the fellowship.
  • Preference will be given to Ph.D. registrants who are working on topics related to Tamil Grammatical and Literary Traditions, Comparative Literature, Comparative Dravidian and Language Typology.
  • The candidate should not have exceeded 30 years of age as on 31-10-2005. Age relaxation will be allowed for OBC candidates (3 years) and SC/ST  candidates (5 years).
Post-Doctoral Fellowships (5) :
  • The Post-Doctoral Fellowship includes award of Rs. 12,000/-  per month for 2 years with a contingency grant of Rs. 20,500/- per annum. It is extendable by one more year in case of actual need after proper assessment of the progress made. The maximum period of fellowship will not exceed 3 years.To begin with it is upto March 31, 2007 only.
  • Ph.D. Degree holders who are interested to work in the areas of Language, Linguistics, or allied disciplines such as Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Archeology, Epigraphy, Philosophy, etc., are eligible to apply. Those who have already submitted the Ph.D. thesis and are shortly expecting the award of Ph.D. Degree can also apply.
  • Preference will be given to those who are working on  topics related to Tamil  Grammatical and Literary Traditions, Comparative Literature, Comparative Dravidian and Language Typology.
  • The candidate should not have exceeded 40 years of age as on 31-10-2005. Age relaxation will be allowed for OBC candidates (3 years) and SC/ST  candidates (5 years).
  • Persons who are employed should route their application through their employers.
