Scheme for Classical Tamil

Awards
(2005-06)

The Institute under its Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Languages - Scheme for Classical Tamil proposes to honor scholars with outstanding contributions in classical Tamil by conferring the following awards;

  1. CHEMMOZHI CHEMMAL AWARDS - 3 - Rs.1,00,000/- each
    (one for Foreigners, one for Non-Resident Indians and one for Indian Nationals)

  2. CHEMMOZHI CHELVAR AWARDS - 5 - Rs.50,000/- each
    (for young scholars in the age group of 30-40 years)

Instructions:

  • Published works on Tamil Grammar, Literature, Fine arts, Architecture, Epigraphy, Science and Technology belonging to the period upto 1600 A.D.(Pre-European period) will be considered for the Awards. Works published during the period January 1950 to December 2004 shall be considered.

  • Books which have already received any National Award or Prize shall not be eligible for these awards.

  • Eligible Scholars may be nominated by common public or the Scholars may themselves apply.

  • Foreigner is one who possesses a valid and current passport of any country other than India.

  • Non-Resident Indian is either of the following : (i) one who is resident of a country outside India but has an Indian Passport or (ii) one who was once an Indian citizen but has subsequently taken up citizenship of another country.
