The Central Institute of Indian Languages was established as a sub-ordinate office of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India, provides financial assistance to the Individual Authors /Voluntary Organisations / Societies and Charitable Trust under the following schemes.

1. Financial Assistance for Bulk Purchase of books (maximum of 200 copies) in Indian Languages (other than English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, and Urdu). The applicants for bulk purchase of books should be authors themselves or their heirs/copyright holders. Preference to be given to the Minority Language cases and other Languages whose representation is nil or dismal with special focus on the languages in the North-Eastern Region as well as those languages that are newly emerging as languages used in informative and knowledge texts and analytical writings.

2. Financial Assistance for Publication of books in Indian Languages (other than English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, and Urdu), (subject to a maximum of 80% of the cost as vetted by the National Book Trust or Rs.50,000/- whichever is least).

3. Financial Assistance for the Publication of scholarly Little Magazines at least bi-annual (To a maximum of Rs. 10,000/- per year subject to maximum of 3 years) in Indian Languages (other than English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, and Urdu).

4. Financial Assistance to Voluntary Organisations for selected promotional activities relating to the Indian Languages (other than English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Sindhi and Urdu). The financial assistance is provided for the following:

1. Assistance for Organising Conferences/ Seminars/Workshop on Language Literature and Culture. (Subject to a maximum of Rs.30, 000/-per event).
2. Assistance for undertaking Short term Studies (Subject to a maximum of Rs. 30,000/- per event).
3. Assistance for Teaching of Indian Languages. (Subject to a maximum of Rs. 20,000/- per event).

NOTE: Voluntary Organisations, Societies and Charitable Trust, which are registered under the relevant Central or State Act, at least three full calendar years prior to the date of application, are eligible to apply for assistance.

The applicants can apply for the grant any time of the year and selection of grant will be done twice in a year through GIAC meeting.
