P.N. Javarappa Gowda Samaja Mukhi
award to LINGADEVARU HALEMANE

“P.N. Javarappa Gowda Samaja Mukhi” award was presented to Sri. Lingadevaru Halemane on 19.06.2008 at ‘Raitha Sabhangana’ at Mandya. The award was given in recognition of his contribution to Adult Education and Literacy Programme.

Award is instituted in the name of P.N. Javarappa Gowda by his family members. P.N. Javarappa Gowda was a Gandhian, freedom fighter, social activist, journalist and a great champion of adult education. He was the president of Karnataka state Adult Education Council during 1970’s and during his period KSAEC was given much coveted Jawaharlal Nehru Literacy award.

Award was instituted in 2004 and the responsibility of conferring the award to right person is entrusted to Karnataka Sangha, Mandya. In the past three years award was given to different areas like social service, journalism etc., and this year it was meant for literacy.

Sri. Lingadevaru Halemane was chiefly responsible for planning and executing the total literacy campaigns in Karnataka. He undertook preparation of text books & designing training programme to the total literacy campaign as the Director of State Resource Center and consultant to National Literacy Mission. He has also served at the national level as member of many task force committees and also as text book review committee member. He had adopted many innovative methods in the campaign to motivate the learners and volunteers. Recognizing his service award is conferred on him by Karnataka Sangha, Mandya.

            Award carries Rs. 10,000/- in cash and citation.
