National Translation Mission (NTM) Scheme under the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore requires a Project Director to lead the Mission in achieving its aims and objectives.
NTM is a Government of India initiative to translate knowledge-texts in English from various disciplines spanning physical sciences, social sciences and humanities into 22 languages included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India. It is therefore an attempt to democratize knowledge by making it accessible to those who may have difficulty with English and to simultaneously create opportunities to modernize Indian languages and guarantee their growth in higher domains of education. NTM also seeks to create translation tools in print and web as well as identify and engage capable individuals for translation related activity in these languages.
The Project Director will be based at the NTM headquarters in Mysore and will report to the Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, the Nodal Officer of the Mission. He/she is expected to coordinate all endeavours involved in convening the meetings of the Project Advisory Committee and Sub-Committees, etc., in consultation with MHRD and to interact with other governmental and private organizations, educational institutions, publishing houses etc., to further the cause of the NTM. He /she will also help in planning the targets and delivering the products of translation and ensuring that the people involved in the process do so effectively with high order of quality. The financial responsibilities attached to the position will be limited to drawing up the plan and the budget for different activities.
The position of Project Director on a consolidated pay of Rs.55, 000/- per month is contractual in nature and the appointment will be initially for a period of 3 years. Candidates seeking to apply for this position should be less than 62 years of age on the last date of receipt of application-i.e., 15th of February 2010.
Educational Qualifications:- Doctoral Degree in Translation or and other related fields with at least 15 years of research/teaching experience and at least 5 years of administrative experience in a reputed organization or an educational institution.

Short listed candidates may be given travel assistance as per their eligibility and as per government norms subject to the production of tickets/boarding passes etc.
It may be noted that the decision of the Competent Authority will be final in any matter relating to the selection or otherwise of a candidate.
