TRAINING PROGRAMME IN LANGUAGE EDUCATION (JULY – APRIL)
Applications are invited for admission to a ten-month training program in Language Education in any of the Modern Indian Languages listed in our table, with a special component of Language Studies.
Applicants may be Teachers/Research Students/Minority language speakers/Translators or others who are demonstrably interested in language studies.
The training programmes are available at the seven Regional Language Centers of this Institute as detailed below.
The total number of seats available for admission is 561 with quotas reserved as per the policy of the Government of India.

ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS: Ideally, the applicants should not have any previous knowledge in the language applied for and should not be trained earlier in any of the languages in any of the Centre.
Teachers
50% of the seats will be reserved for teachers serving in Government/Government aided/Government recognized High School (6th to 10th) with 3 years of teaching experience. The teacher must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Preference will be given to those with a B.Ed degree. He/She must be below 45 years of age as on 1st June, 2008. Other things being equal preference will be given to teachers who teach languages.
Research Students/Scholars
20% seats will be reserved for Research Students/Scholars who have registered for their PhD and who feel that knowledge of the language and language studies will help their research work. Preference will be given to those who have a long term interest in language and who will be willing to undertake serious research or participate in language development activity. Those who have already obtained their PhD and are planning to initiate post-doctoral work may apply directly.
Minority Language Speakers
10% seats will be reserved for Speakers of lesser known languages of smaller communities/tribal languages who may be willing to learn a major language but who will later want to work for the development of their own languages. They should be at least graduates who may be inclined to higher studies.
Open seats
20% Open Seats will be for those who are atleast Graduates with demonstrable interest in language studies.
EMOLUMENTS:
(a) The selected teachers from Government/Fully Government aided schools will be paid their salaries based on the Last Pay Certificate sent by their respective Drawing and Disbursing Officers duly countersigned by the Inspector of Schools/DEO to the concerned Principals of the Regional Language Centers.
(b) All other trainees will be paid a consolidated salary of Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five thousand only) per month. This amount is payable to Research Students/Scholars who do not get any funding from other agencies (UGC, ICSSR, Universities, etc).
STIPEND: in addition to the salary or consolidated amount, all trainees will also be paid a stipend of Rs.800/- (Rupees eight hundred only) per month during the training period.
TA/DA: The selected trainees will be paid TA/DA for their onward and return journey and during Language Environment Tour as per rules.
INCENTIVES for teachers: After the successful completion of the course, the trained teachers would be eligible for payment of cash allowance of Rs.70/- (Rupees seventy only) per month if they teach the language for a minimum of three periods in a week in their respective institutions for at least one academic year.
Hostel facilities are available for at least 60% of the trainees and preference for hostel accommodation will be given to out station trainees. Others may have to make their own arrangements.

LAST DATE: Candidates should submit their applications to the Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Manasagangotri, Mysore - 570 006 by 31st March, 2008. The applications of teachers should be routed through proper channels i.e. Director of Education of the State concerned. The Research students/scholars should apply through the Head of the Department of the concerned University/Institution where they have registered for research. Those belonging to SC/OBC/ST will be required to send appropriate certificates.
NOTE:
Candidates should enclose two copies of recent passport size photographs and supporting documents mentioned in the application form which they need to duly fill in and sign. No advance copy of the application will be considered. Candidates should carefully read the Rules in the Prospectus and satisfy themselves about their physical fitness to undergo training in the centre concerned.
