I. Fellowships and Scholarships
1. Fellowships: 2

Readers/Senior Professors from Indian universities to work in the Institute either for the whole academic year or for specific term as the case may be. Fellowship is for a period of two years at the first instance

The awardees of these Fellowships would use this time from their regular teaching work either to complete the monograph or to do some field work, this should also provide the much needed theoretical orientation to the Institute.

Fellowship amount equivalent to the salary as he/she was drawing before the award If he /she is in the service of Government or of any organization other than a university, his/her status shall be equated with that of a lecturer, reader or professor under a university and the salary payable to him shall be fixed accordingly for proposes of the fellowship amount.

It is equal to the emoluments drawn as salary by the awardees excluding CPF contribution in their respective departments and a contingency grant of Rs.5000 only.
2. Scholarships - 5

For post graduates who have completed their M.A., in Languages, Linguistics or allied disciplines for pursuing inter- disciplinary research at the Institute.

Tenure of the scholarship :Maximum period of two years.

Qualification: First or high second class Masters degree in linguistics or allied disciplines.

Age: Not more than 30 years as on Aug 1, of the year in which the scholarship is awarded.
3. Scholarships for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes
- For pursuing the following courses in Linguistics:
- M.A. -3 Rs. 600 per month. Contingency grant: Rs 1, 000 for the course.
- M.Phil -1 Rs. 1000 per month. Contingency grant: Rs.1,000 for the course.
- Ph.D - 1 Rs. 1,000 per month. Contingency grant: Rs. 2000 for the course.
II. Faculty Improvement Programme (FIP)
The FIP was initiated in the year 1999-2000 on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee of the Institute. Under this scheme every year scholars would be invited to the Institute to deliver a series of lectures on the themes relevant to the objectives of the Institute.
During the year 2000-01 series of lectures were delivered by
- Prof. A.K.Sinha of Delhi University (June 5-9),
- Prof. B.N.Patnalk of the IIT,Kanpur (October 16-18).
- Prof. N.K. Sinha of Wisconsin University (January 18 and 19).
- Prof. Indra Nath Choudhary former Secretary, Sahitya Academi , New Delhi (March 29 and 30)
III CIIL -Schoolnet Project
The Institute has entered into collaboration with the Schoolnet India Limited ( A Company promoted by Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited) to develop content for school education in Indian languages.
This is done through

Translating or trans-creating such material from English into various major Indian languages or from one regional language into others.

Preparation of model mother tongue CD books for teaching Indian languages.
