As an agency of the Government of India concerned with the development of Indian languages, the Central Institute of Indian Languages has an active role to play in the development of the languages of the Island in order to fulfill its objectives. So far the Institute has made its impact in the following areas of language development.

 
 
  • Preparation of Grammars.
 
  • Preparation of Books for Basic Communication.
 
  • Preparation of Instructional materials.
 
  • Preparation of Pictorial Glossaries.
 
  • Conducting Sociolinguistic surveys.
 
  • Conducting Orientation courses to the language teachers.
 
  • Conducting Linguistic Training courses to the school teachers and college lectures.
