Repository in Linguistics
Institutional Repositories (IR) has recently emerged
as a novel scholarly publishing and communication model. An IR is a digital
archive of the research output of faculty, research staff, and students
of an institution and usually accessible freely to end users both within
and outside of the institution. An IR is also viewed as a set of services
that an institution offers to the members of its community for the management,
long-term preservation and dissemination of digital materials created
by members of the community. Institutional repositories have great potential
for improving visibility and impact of institutional research. It is important
to view them as essential infrastructure and service, particularly by
academic institutions. Content in an IR could include published material
(e.g. journal papers (post-prints), book chapters, and conference papers),
unpublished/ gray research material (e.g. pre-prints, working papers,
learning material, progress/ status reports, etc.) and supporting research
material (e.g. data sets, models, and simulations). An IR supports functions
such as user registration, document submission, workflow, archiving, dissemination
and repository management. Metadata ‘harvesting’ and development
of cross-repository content aggregation and search services are the added
features in this web page. |
